What is a Double-Sided Grinder?
A double-sided grinder, sometimes called a vertical machine is typically a solid, coarse grinder with two opposite sides. A double-sided grinder also known as a vertical machine. It uses a vertical grinding wheel in either side of a fixed flat grinding plate at the other end. In a vertical machine, the work piece is passed through the grinding wheel and then turned off at the opposite end. Turning the work piece self-loads the grinding stone on the opposite side.
A vertical grinder has many advantages over a double-sided grinder, although it is not as efficient and productive as the former. The primary advantage of a vertical grinder, besides its versatility, is that it is simpler to operate and more efficient. This type of grinder also tends to work faster than its counterpart due to the lack of need for turning the grinding wheel when the workpiece is not located in the direction of the rotary force. The work piece moved by the turning motion is usually in a different, slightly counter-clockwise direction than the workpiece located in the clockwise direction.
Many types of grinder use two separate discs for grinding. The upper disc acts as the work piece, the one that is turned when the workpiece rotates. The lower disc, also called a ground stone, is the stationary disc that retains the material that is ground. Grinding machines may also use two of these discs together; however, single-disc grinders tend to be less expensive and are used primarily in home applications where high precision is desired.
Two types of grinding machines exist for the workpiece in contact with two different materials. These types of machines are self-aligned and semi-automatic. Self-aligned grinders work by holding the workpiece in place and then moving it so that both the front of the workpiece and the back face of the workpiece are in the same plane. The grinding of the material happens simultaneously as the work moves parallel to the direction of movement. semi-automatic grinders, on the other hand, will move the work in a straight line against a predetermined set of grid lines, but the machine will stop and start the grinding motion if and when the grid boundaries become too close or far from each other.
Although there are three different types of grinders, they all accomplish the same task. They all move workpieces in a controlled fashion along a surface. This surface could be a belt or a plate; however, most grinders will also use a rotary screen. The screen may be made of plastic or glass and it is placed over a belt or a spindle to prevent particles from being caught by the grinding tool.
